When traveling home from the Atlanta airport with my roommate my stomach began to grumble. I actually hadn’t eaten that day and I was what appeared to be starving. I discussed the my issue with Erin (my roommate). I wanted CHIPOTLE. I mean who wouldn’t want this for dinner.
However I was hungry. I needed to eat sooner than later. Ya know before I exploded. I told Erin that I would settle for Wendy’s. While we were driving we saw an exit that was coming up that had Wendy’s. We attempted to get off, but a car sped up and wouldn’t let us over so we ended up missing the exit. Have you ever noticed that sometimes the Lord places road blocks before us to stop us from missing the blessing that He has down the road. However we find ourselves sometimes frustrated, because we didn’t get what we WANTED so we continue pursuing the “thing.”
Erin and I continued on I-85 and kept our eyes pealed for yet another Wendy’s. After 2 exits we found yet a second Wendy’s opportunity. We veered of the highway and didn’t see any food places in sight. Erin decided to explore and took a right and we ended up at the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Atlanta. We turned around and found ourselves back on I-85 going the opposite direction that we had plan on traveling. Seriously how did this happen?? Sometimes when your chasing the wrong things you go backwards instead of forward. You loose yourself and don’t end up actually growing. In an effort to gain back what you lost you continue to pursue the “thing.”
After we get back on I-85 going the correct way and pass the previous exit for Wendy’s we find yet another Wendy’s. By this time I am cranky, annoyed, hungry, and just at the end of myself. All I want is my food, and I want it NOW. So after ordering my favorite spicy chicken sandwich (pictured below) I was on cloud 9.
Yes finally food!!!
When I opened up my sandwich I realized that I forgot to ask for cheese. BUMMER!!! I reached for a french fry and dug deeper into the bag. Low and behold there was NO FREAKING KETCHUP! How am I supposed to eat Wendy’s fries with no ketchup? Sometimes when you get what you wanted its not as good as you expected, because what you wanted wasn’t what you needed. (Can I get an amen?)
After my disappointment and the not-so-pleasing meal, 4 exits later we see
THE SIGN!
Chipotle is what I wanted, but since I settled for Wendy’s I couldn’t reap the blessing of chipotle. Maybe this is far fetched for you, but I’m sure everyone can relate.
What’s the moral of this story:
Don’t settle for best when
greater is coming.
